REACH
Others have already
looked at this closely.
State governments, international relief organisations and some of the world’s leading paediatric centres have all funded, directed or built work with this department. The arrangements are documented and the results are on record.
If you want to join them, the three things a partner can fund are set out on the Contribute page.
The record
STATE GOVERNMENTS
Jharkhand
MoU · April 2026
Completely free specialised paediatric cardiac care and surgery for children across the state, including the cost of travelling to Kochi. The agreement also commits Amrita to quarterly screening camps in districts including Ranchi and Bokaro, and to training local paediatricians so that diagnosis eventually happens in the state rather than in Kerala.
Kerala
Hridyam · founding partner
Foundational partner and major contributor to the state’s population-wide congenital heart disease programme. Kerala now has the highest proportion of affected children actually operated on of any region in India.
Odisha
Strategic agreement
Agreements to provide free cardiac care for children from the state.
Meghalaya
Advisory
Advisory role with the state government on reducing infant mortality through targeted intervention for birth defects, in a region where the proportion of children with congenital heart disease reaching surgery is close to zero.
International relief
Rotary International
GIFT OF LOVE
Children have been brought to Kochi from Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia and The Gambia for free, life-saving operations they could not have had at home. Teaching teams travel outward too — the department’s reach.
CLINIC AND ACADEMIC
We are taught by, and teach, the
best programmes in the world.
These are not memoranda. They are standing working relationships, running for
years, in which people and data move in both directions.

Boston Children’s Hospital, the primary paediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and home to one of the largest paediatric heart centres in the world. Amrita’s fellows train there, its faculty collaborate on cardiac MRI and clinical research, and the IQIC registry that audits this department’s surgical outcomes is run from there. It is the reason the results published on this site are independently verified rather than self-reported.
Boston Children’s Hospital
Harvard Medical School
Cardiac MRI, fellowship exchange and joint clinical research. Boston also runs the audit behind the IQIC registry this department submits to, which is what makes the outcome figures on this site verifiable rather than self-reported.
Children’s HeartLink
Centre of Excellence · global training site
Amrita was the first centre in the world to receive the designation, and the first of several international sites to hold global training-site status. The obligation that comes with it is to train other hospitals, which is why specialists from across South Asia and Africa are taught here.
Stanford & Lucile Packard
Intensive care and nursing
A standing collaboration that has shaped how the paediatric cardiac ICU here is run. Most children who die after congenital heart surgery in low-resource settings die in intensive care rather than in theatre, which is why this relationship matters more than its profile suggests.
UCSF
Paediatric cardiac surgery
Surgical collaboration including regular visiting faculty, focused on the complex reconstructive work that a centre cannot learn in isolation.
Also working with Evelina London, IJN Malaysia, the Berlin Heart Institute, the University of Cologne, Georgia Tech, the Sri Lankan College of Paediatrics, and ICMR as a Collaborating Centre of Excellence. The research these produce

Camp and treatment partners
70+ camps
More than seventy outreach screening camps have been run in partnership with NGOs, foundations and corporate donors across twelve states and union territories. The same partnerships underwrite a substantial share of the free and subsidised treatment provided since 1998.
